Today, the 1st day of October, is observed as International Day of Older Persons. Eight (8) years ago on the 2nd of October 2013, my 70th Birthday, I was sworn in as the President of Dominica. Throughout my Presidency, therefore, as an older person myself, I have considered it an honour and a privilege to be afforded the opportunity, each year, by the Dominica Council on Ageing to address you on the occasion of the observance of "International Day of Older Persons.
Mister Speaker, Honourable Members of the House of Assembly, Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, the listening and viewing public, I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who has been and continues to be our Rock and Stronghold in the midst of our many challenges and trials.
Mister Speaker, Honourable Members of the House of Assembly, Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, a very pleasant good morning to you all as we give thanks and praise to God Almighty with a grateful heart, for He has been good to all of us.
Mister Speaker, I wish to thank you most earnestly for the kind invitation which you extended to me and my dear wife Clara to attend this First Meeting of the Second Session of the Tenth Parliament and for me to address this Honourable House. My wife and I are delighted to be here and she joins me in thanking you for your kind and gracious invitation.

Today is the Second Monday in March and this day is traditionally observed in all 54 Member Countries of the Commonwealth as Commonwealth Day. On that day, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as Head of the Commonwealth traditionally issues a Commonwealth Day Message to the 2.4 billion people who make up the Commonwealth.
